Harvesting Quality Feed Means High Farm Profitability
At the dairy farm in Chutivka village (South region of BZK), the process of harvesting voluminous feeds – grass haying – continues. In general, for the production of feed, the company grows alfalfa, corn silage, winter rye, oats and barley.
– Loose feed is economically profitable, its cost is lower than concentrated feed. The quality of the main feed depends on the diet, health, and reproductive function of cows. By the content of nutrients, it occupies an intermediate position between silos and hay, therefore, it also took the name “cynosolid” or the haylage. The harvest of hay should be conducted on technology, and we strictly adhere to it. The quality of the feed, its nutritional quality and the profit of the farm depend on it, – says deputy regional director of animal husbandry Ruslan Degtyarev.
Harvesting of bulk feeds is a multi-stage process. After cutting and attaching, the alfalfa is sliced and shoved, then the silage harvester selects and shreds, adding a bioconservant, and finally transported to the farm. On the field near the farm, alfalfa is cut. It is best to mow alfalfa during the budding period. Then the plant concentrates the desired content of the required substances.
– We weigh up to 30 hectares of alfalfa a day. The new mower has proven itself well, mow quickly and qualitatively, we use every day. We are hurrying to prepare food feed before it rains, – says the mechanic Oleksandr Shcherbakov, who has been preparing feed for the third year already.
On the farm, the feed is preserved in conditions of physiological dryness of the environment, which excludes the active development of bacteria, and sealing. This prevents the development of mold. The farm expects to harvest 2000 tons of haylage for the entire year.
